Stefan Lederer of Bitmovin | Interview snippets from NAB BuZZ 2018 podcasts with Larry Jordan
Larry Jordan: Let's look at the operation of the actual compression itself. What does the tool look like? Are we needed to work with a programmer to be able to use this or can somebody that understands video production use this? What's the interface like and how complex is it to use technically?
Stefan Lederer: We have an API based product. APIs are application programming interfaces that are typically used by software developers to integrate the compression in a video workflow.
LJ: So, you're a headless back-end background process which somebody else has to write the interface for. Who do you partner with?
SL: Exactly. We have some monitoring interfaces. But the triggering, the control and those things are done via APIs. And we partner with system integrators that build custom front-ends, for example, for our customers, but also a lot of customers are now adding software engineering resources. Video companies are actually becoming Internet companies. Broadcasters are becoming internet companies to build up software development teams, to build up online video offerings, and that's great to see. It's a transition going on today.
