Bram Desmet of Flanders Scientific | Interview snippets from NAB BuZZ 2018 podcasts with Larry Jordan
Larry Jordan: So what have you got for us that's new?
Bram Desmet: The biggest thing, literally the biggest thing, that we're introducing this year is a 65-inch UHD OLED monitor that can be used for both SDR and HDR monitoring.
LJ: A 65-inch OLED monitor? Does it come with wheels?
BD: We actually have a rolling case for the ones that we used to go on demos with because it is a little bit large, but it's actually not that heavy. it's 60 pounds. I remember when I first started in this industry, there were CRTs around that were 24 inches and weighed 60 pounds. So while it's large, it's not that heavy.
LJ: One of the problems I've got with the monitor size increasing is the pixel density decreases, so as you get closer to the monitor, it just starts to get really grainy and pixilated. So what's an application for this big monitor?
BD: One thing that works in your favor there, of course, is that we're going from HD to UHD, so at that size, you're four times the resolution of, say, a standard HD monitor. I agree with you, a 65-inch HD, you have to sit pretty far away, but a UHD, you've got to get real close before you start seeing the pixels themselves. At any sort of normal viewing distance, you wouldn't see any of that.
