Larry Jordan: We're here at a show which is focusing on new technology. Do you have new stuff for us?

Mathew Gilliat-Smith: We do. We've got a new version of MediaSeal, which is the file encryption-at-rest product. It's version 3.7.1 and, in there, it's got much more granularity for the authentication levels. Sometimes you might be in a studio in deepest, darkest Africa. You've got no ability to connect to a server, so you can have a sort of password protection that deals with that. But there's either password only, there's password and key, and there's password, key, and server and it gives that granularity. The other thing we've got is encryption-on-the-fly, it's called Live Folders and it just makes it even more simple. You just drop the asset into the folder, it automatically encrypts it, and you can edit in that file and it's persistent encryption all the way through.

LJ: Now we have to stress that, when you're encrypting, you're just sort of putting it in a folderÔøΩ I'm using the folder in the generic termÔøΩ but you're not modifying my data; you're not damaging the image quality or the audio quality. It's just sort of getting a new envelope put around it.

MG: Correct, it's an envelope. It's an envelope wrapper. In the directory and the archiving, it's listed exactly as a native file would be. It has to be completely compatible with all those systems.

LJ: What platforms do you work on?

MG: Windows, Mac, and Linux. It's cross platform, it's file agnostic, and it's program agnostic.
